SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FL. For the 7th year, Ankara Miami has taken over the fashion scene in South Florida, bringing the freshest in African and African inspired fashions. Produced by Evelyn Onyejuruwa (@EvelynO11), Ankara Fashion Week has grown to be a semi-annual event, with a fashion showcase during Miami Swim Week in July.
This year's showcase was presented at the beautiful venue of the Newport Beachside Resort in Sunny Isles Beach, FL. The evening was full of a wonderful, positive energy as the guests filed into the venue.
Returning was legendary host, Marcellus "Chello" Davis (@ChelloBlueMagic), while DJ Baboo (@IAmDJBaboo) kept the music going all night. There were unique performances by Ayaninrin and International Recording Artist, King Kanja. Designers weren't all local to the South Florida area, with Jean Decort 507 and Tasha & Tianne Fashion traveling from Panama and Jamaica, respectively.
This year the Ankara Miami, Cultural Arts Advocacy Award, was presented to Cultural Ambassador, Adanma Osuji. The Award recognizes South Florida Community Leaders for their commitment to uplifting cultural arts and education initiatives within the African Diaspora.
All donations and a part of the ticket sales from Ankara Miami 2018 goes to bridging and advancing cultural arts and education through community programs and initiatives.
